Hi Emi, it’s been two years at Monday! And we are happy to share your working routine with our community. You started as an intern and now you work as a graphic designer for our biggest clients. How it looks one work day at Monday? What do you do when you are not creating awesome designs? How do you stay inspired and keep coming up with creative ideas? Which component of graphic design is your favorite?

Working for 2 years as a graphic designer in Monday means that I spend most of the day in front of the computer. What fascinates me in my free time are the small things. I mostly watch series, and documentaries, or have a coffee with close friends. At the weekends I like to walk in nature and enjoy beautiful views. I like to visit new and different places and learn about their cultures. I think there is time for everything, only if it is well organized.
My working day starts with coffee! It’s important to not start anything until you’ve had a cup of coffee. Then I make the schedule of daily priority tasks, consulting colleagues, researching and drawing inspiration, sharing ideas, and finally designing and completing tasks. At the end of the working hours, I spend time on my favorite design sites, trying to get inspired and learn something new.
I am constantly fascinated by the power of a well-done creative solution and how easily it can convey a message. The goal of creating an understandable design for a specific group of people is very challenging. I think most of the inspiration comes from everyday life. I am surrounded by a great team where I have the opportunity to step out of my comfort zone, where wrong thinking is right. I can exchange ideas freely, and the continuous exchange of ideas is an important part of my daily inspiration.
The ultimate goal is to create a good design that looks clear and understandable and can easily reach a specific audience. The combination of image, color, space, and typography to achieve an aesthetically clear and attractive design is what I love. Of course, a combination of other components is always good and can create a good design that will reach an audience or achieve some other specific goal.
The first tool that caught my attention and made me start learning graphic design is Photoshop, that’s why it’s my favorite. Working on different projects every day is challenging, but different projects give you the opportunity to constantly learn new things. I couldn’t single out a specific project, I love working on logo and brand identity, coming up with campaigns, marketing design, packaging and covers, print design, etc. I would not like to limit myself to a certain area. I love to create for different purposes. I mostly use Pinterest for inspiration, but also Muzli which actually is a new Chrome extension that instantly delivers relevant design stories and inspiration. Also, I find it important to stay current and involved by watching designers I admire. I follow a lot of designers on social media, mostly on
Instagram and Behance. I collect and save designs that I want to inspire me so I can refer back to them whenever I need to.
As a designer, you learn something new every day and that’s what fascinates me about this job. To come to a final solution, some creation, improvement, and innovation, you have to go through challenges. Learning new tools, and options, following new trends, ideas, opportunities, and upgrades, and being able to constantly advance your work is truly amazing and never boring. You can’t get enough of designing.
